“On Starz’s Head Case, Tiffani Thiessen explained it thusly: “We’re going to need to find you a gay. See, this is the thing: you go shopping, you get to do spa days, you travel; you get to do everything with them — except you don’t have to f–k them.”
Unsurprisingly, none of our survey participants or commenters shared Thiessen’s crass sentiment. In fact, despite the near ubiquitous presence of “queer peers” on television, only 13 percent of our female readers said they enjoy gay men because they are “funnier/more empathetic/more fashion-conscious/better fit” than straight men.
And of that 13 percent, the interest in “queer peer” relationships had less do with having a shoe-shopping sidekick and more to do with feeling a common kinship with gay men.”

Interesting article; I think there’s a difference between why we choose gay men to be our friends and why we might enjoy gay men in our fiction or TV shows.
But for me, it’s not about them being gay or straight… it’s about the person as a human being. If they have qualities I find appealing, then that’s what matters.
I answered their survey, and I think Heather’s right– there are different reasons for enjoying gay friends and gay— avatars, for lack of a better word. I thought the questions on the survey were kind of leading toward the results they got.
I answered their survey as well and found the results to be interesting. I believe you like who you like and most of the time you cant explain why. It is my most viewwd site after candygossip.
