Liberty Law School Dean Gets His Panties in a Wad Over Adam’s AMA Performance

From here: (my comments in pink)
Mat Staver,
of Liberty University School of Law and founder of Liberty Counsel, appeared on CBS’ “The Early Show” Wednesday morning regarding a complaint Liberty Counsel filed with the FCC against ABC for airing the controversial performance by Adam Lambert during the 2009 American Music Awards.
Dean Staver said on the national television program that Lambert’s performance was shocking and patently offensive. He said Lambert’s performance came without warning and that ABC should be fined for airing the segment. (except for the million times ABC pimped it as shocking!)
In the complaint, the performance was called “obscene” and “indecent.” Under the laws regulating televised broadcasts, particularly between the family viewing hours of 6 to 10 p.m., the Federal Communications Commission prohibits obscene or indecent performances. “Liberty Counsel urges the Commission to take action against ABC, Inc., for airing such an outrageously lewd and filthy performance during a show and time period that is targeted for family audiences,” the complaint reads. (umm dude, it aired at almost 11pm!)
Staver is considered one of the premier constitutional litigators in the country and conducts hundreds of media interviews each year. (OIC. he likes to talk.)
In a Liberty Counsel press release, Anita L. Staver, president of Liberty Counsel, remarked: “The performance by Adam Lambert clearly crossed the line. ABC should be held accountable for airing this indecent and offensive performance. ABC promoted Lambert’s performance to boost its ratings. Now ABC should have to pay a hefty penalty to the FCC for assaulting its viewers with a debased performance by Adam Lambert.” (assault? umm ok. I assume he didn’t switch off the TV the second he found it offensive. If he even watched it live! Methinks Mat with one T is not a big watcher of the AMAs.)

Having read some of the comments on the CBS sight, I have to say the argument to protect the kids gets under my skin-and i have 2 boys. Kids see and hear much worse at home. From how horrible parents behave at kids sporting events, to witnessing parents fighting, hearing how they talk about neighbors or co-workers all in front of them. I could go on but i hate parents who blame a music video, or movie, or even book for why their child acted a certain way. These people never take responsibility and are ultimately too lazy to do their job, hence these righteous parent groups do not speak for me and why did ABC let 1500 people speak for the rest of us?! Sorry, i’m done.
KRADAMAPOCOLYPSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This stuff is nothing new. The Parents Television Council said his performance was “singularly distasteful”. Were they talking about Adam. No, that was in response to the 1956 appearance of Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show. !!! read this at eonline.com. Didnt hurt Elvis any, did it? Loved the fact that Harry Smith on the early show also reminded the audience of this fact. Really thought they were totally supporting Adam, especially Smith. The appearance of Mombert was a genius PR move. I thought Adams permances were perfect in every way and should help calm down the hysteria!!!
weuu!!!!!….maybe 1500 complained against the performance, but 40.000+ complained against cancelling his
appearance the next morning. All my love to CBS.And for the rest;shaddup already!!!!
This is such total bullshit. It is men of his age who are offended. I guarantee every teenager from 14 on is more aware of what is actually going on with regard to sexuality than that twerp who brought the complaint. I have a teenage granddaughter, and I know what she thinks and feels about sex and all its differences. Today’s teenagers are so accepting of kids who may be gay. Teenagers have grown up knowing about this subject and sex and all its ramifications. These kids are smarter and more accepting of those differences than the jerk who made such a fuss calling Adam obscene. I have been watching men kiss for about ten years now. The soaps are on all day and have explored this subject over and over as well as dramas and situation comedies at night. Seeing two men kiss is no different than seeing a man and woman or two women kiss. Once you see it, the mystery is over and it becomes a natural part of life as it should. When did kissing become obscene. Kissing is fun, sexy, loving, sharing, and caring. What kind of a person cannot accept two men kissing. What must be going on in their minds that they would find a loving act too horrible to watch. What were they taught as young people about love and the differences in sexuality.
ABC should be ashamed of themselves. Half the people working at ABC are probably gay. The most talented people in the entertainment field are gay. Life would be so boring if it were not for the arts. I wish everyone would snap out of their ignorance and get with the program. This country is changing and the sooner the older generation is gone, the more understanding people will have. I long for the day when there are no labels on anyone.
The people that we all love to call “different” are our sons and daughters. We should love and support all our children no matter what their sexual orientation and stop looking at a kiss as obscene. This man made me sick when he said that. What kind of person looks at a kiss and sees something horrible. Guess what, teenagers even know about oral sex.
Totally agree loha and Sagitariusmoon, I am glad to hear more people were upset at the cancellation. This crap has got to stop. Men like the one complaining are setting a bad example for the children of this country. They are not concerned with children, they are concerned with indoctrinating the children with their obscenities. It is obscene to pass judgment on people who are different than oneself. Whatever happened to tolerance and understanding? I guess I am being intolerant of this man but it is hard to understand such hatred.
No more Kradam(tears),HH made Tommy to take over(do you guys think, they actually talked about it?The slo mo shows Tommy was into it,more than a str8 boy should.I remember HH talked about to go back the drawing board to understand what boys kissing boys mean…..hmmmm.if HP wasn’t 100%,Tommy is curious with 65% ratio?)
you gotta love Tommy’s guts
He can assault my eyes anytime.
Glad to hear the complaints on the ABC cancellation were more.

irish , you said it beautifully. Thank you
Not sure how this lawyer defines liberty. In my dictionary it means emancipation, freedom , not sanctioning !
I so agree Irish…well said.
Liberty “Law School” is not exactly the most prestigious law school (it wasn’t recognized enough to be ranked by the American Bar Association as of 2007 at least ) Jerry Falwell is associated with it.
It was 9:55 in my area. Nothing was censored.
