As for how bass player and keyboardist Tommy Joe Ratliff, who’s been playing with Lambert all of three weeks, got roped into a nationally televised lip-lock? Easy, he didn’t know it was coming. “He just believes in the spirit of rock & roll, as do I,” said Lambert. “He’s a really cool open guy. There’s a quote from the movie Velvet Goldmine that we both get a kick out of: ‘Rock & roll is a prostitute — it should be tarted up.’ He believes in that the same way I do.”
But first things first, namely: his debut album and those high expectations. “Numbers are shmumbers, they don’t mean anything,” he insisted. “It’s about the music. I’m creating art, and if they like it, they’ll buy it, and if they don’t, they don’t. It really doesn’t matter to me.”

Oh, good, adam. I feel better. I was a bit worried about you and concerned about record sales after last night, since today is the big day and all. But not to worry, eh? It doesn’t matter to you if people buy your album or not. Hummm. Okay. I’ll stop worrying. You dick. You really are starting to come off waay to cocky at the beginning of the whole, thing here. You act like you have been famous for all of your life, and have the right to shove this crappy performance in our faces. Well, you might be able to shove that dancer’s faces in your crotch, but get a grip. It is about the music, remember? Where was your voice last night? Maybe you screwed up. You can’t admit this was a wee bit over the top for this type of a TV awards show? You can’t admit that maybe you went a little too far? You dick. Grow up. I was hoping that I would wake up to better news today.
You know what Marlis? I’m not sure what you expect from him. He didn’t apologize for “Ring of Fire”. He didn’t apologize for turning “Beth” into a homoerotic love song. He didn’t apologize for fucking the shit out of mike stand every night on tour. He will NOT apologize for this either. If that bothers you, then don’t buy his album, don’t watch his performances, and for God’s sake, don’t go see him on tour, because I can assure you that it will make this little performance look like a kindergarten Christmas play.
I’m not understanding this whole “Adam doesn’t care about his fans because he doesn’t give a crap what they think about his performance or if they buy his album.”
Adam DOES care about his fans. He cares about the fans who ENJOY WHAT HE DOES. If they don’t, he’s not going to compromise himself to hold on to them or tone down his SICK performances in order to appease those who prefer PG stage performances. So yeah, if it feels like he’s saying “don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out” then maybe his stuff really isn’t your cup of tea. And that’s okay.
The thing that I love about him is he’s going to do what he wants to do, because it’s about HIM and his art. If we like it great, if we don’t, we don’t. Simple as that. He’s not purposely trying to piss anyone off or antagonize viewers. And if people don’t get that by now, then they probably never really understood him.

GET A GRIP. HE’S KEEPING IT REAL. HE PROBABLY WOULDN’T WANT A FAIR WEATHER FAN LIKE YOU ANYWAYS. HE WANTS TO BE WHO HE WANTS TO BE–A REAL ARTIST WHOM NOT EVERYONE IS GONNA LIKE. NOT SOMEONE WHO PANDERS TO THE AUDIENCE. THAT’S WHAT OTHER *REAL* ARTISTS DO.
AND YEAH HE WANTS PPL TO BUY HIS RECORD, BUT HE IS ALSO TRYING TO MAKE A STATEMENT THAT IN THE END HE WANTS IT TO BE ABOUT THE MUSIC.
I watched Adam’s AMA performance on “mute” and thought it was FANTASTIC. Truly. I recommend everyone go do that right now! My problem is that it literally pained me to hear his vocals. He sounded so strained, poor bb.
His Access Hollywood interview right after his performance was so real and so endearing. He was so proud! But I have a feeling that when he watched the performance on tv, he was probably as shocked as I was by the horrible sound-mixing, and his “just under the note” vocals.
That’s ok, bb, I still love you and cannot wait to received my CD in the mail. It better come today!!!
